The Glasshouse Country Menshed was formed with a prime goal of promoting men’s health in Glasshouse Country in whatever way the group is able. After having been diagnosed with prostate cancer and having surgery myself, it became more obvious how prevalent this disease is. In the past six months I have met at least two men each week who have been diagnose with some form of prostate illness requiring treatment. The Sunshine Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group which meets in Maroochydore was contacted, it was identified that the formation of another group at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast would be beneficial. This group could offer support to residents of Blackall Range, Caboolture, Caloundra and Glasshouse Country. The expression of interest to form another support group to bridge the gap between Brisbane and Maroochydore has been encouraging enough to hold a meeting of those interested to form another support group. It does not matter if you are one of the 40% of men who have or had the illness or the partner of a man over 40, you are invited to attend the support group gathering to be held at 5.30 pm Wednesday 12th September at the Mary MacKillop Centre 160 Peachester Rd Beerwah. You may also wish to visit the Sunshine Coast Support Group web site which is supporting this project. The information you gain in September 2012 may save your life.
The Glasshouse Country Menshed team manned the Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Caboolture as a fund raiser & awareness event recently for The Glasshouse Country Prostate Cancer Support Group. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
