Join the Garage Sale Trail and make a sale 26th October 2013

October 5, 2013 by Glasshouse Country Leave a Comment

Are you ready to turn your clutter into cash?

Every year Sunshine Coast residents take clothes, household and electrical items, sports equipment and toys by the trailer load to local tips. But there’s an alternative – The National Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 26 October.

The Sunshine Coast launch of the 2013 event was held at the Buderim Resource Recovery Centre in Maroochydore today. Sunshine Coast Council is one of 110 local councils around the country supporting the 2013 event.

The National Garage Sale Trail had established itself as Australia’s largest and most successful community-based marketplace.

“The Sunshine Coast aims to be Australia’s most sustainable region – vibrant, green and diverse, so it is a natural fit for council to support this event that is very much aligned with our environmental objectives and strategies,” he said.

“Last year’s event involved more than 150,000 participants across Australia, including 7,514 registered garage sellers. That resulted in over 600,000 items being redistributed, much of which may have ended up in landfill.”

National Garage Sale Trail co-founder Darryl Nichols said the October 26 event would deliver a number of positives to participants and the local environment.

“If you’re a seller, the average garage sale makes just over $400. If you’re a buyer there’s always plenty to choose – this year there will be in excess of $5million of items for sale across the country,” he said.

“The National Garage Sale Trail is about sustainability and social fun. Passing on the things you no longer want to someone who does want it is a pretty good form of waste reduction, made even better when it’s going to someone in your neighbourhood.”

Join the Trail, make a sale!

Registration for the National Garage Sale Trail is free via www.garagesaletrail.com.au and includes a seller webpage as well as tips about how to grab a bargain. The first 5,000 people to register nationally (or by 6 October) will be mailed a free participant pack with posters to promote their sale.
