Ladies, get on your bikes and ride!
Calling all female residents of the Sunshine Coast – your ticket to fitness and fun is just a short ride away!
Sunshine Coast Council and the State Government today launched the ‘Start Cycling, Stay Cycling’ program that caters for women who have never cycled before or who cycle irregularly.
Transport Infrastructure Manager Jim McGuire said the five week program aimed to provide enjoyable, accessible and affordable activities and active recreation for women who are not physically active.
“This is a $12,000 program that is jointly funded by Council and the State Government and will be run over a five week period from early 2015,” he said.
“It is designed to give participants the necessary knowledge, skills and motivation to adopt cycling as a lifelong active recreational pursuit.”
Two separate programs will take place over a period of five weeks. Each program will start with a full day workshop, followed by a series of weekly group ride experiences and culminating in an extended group ride event. Participants will learn the basics of bicycle maintenance, pathway etiquette and road rules as well as information about the best local bike routes for basic fitness.
