Starting a Beerwah Residents and Ratepayers Association

October 31, 2014 by Glasshouse Country 3 Comments

Residents and Ratepayers Association

Beerwah Residents AssociationStarting a Ratepayers Association: It’s unfortunate that residents and local business operators in Beerwah, Landsborough and Glasshouse who want to have a say about issues affecting their local area, such as traffic and transport, parks, facilities, services and other local developments, do not have a wide range of community groups available to join. (as far as I’m aware).

With this in mind, I’m interested in assembling a Residents and Ratepayers Association in the Glasshouse Country and wondered if anyone else thought this might be a good idea.

One of our tasks would be to remind the Sunshine Coast Council that we live in a mixed residential and farming area and not only a business precinct, although we greatly value and support our local shops, cafes, small bars and restaurants.

How would it work?

All local residents, farmers and business owners would be welcome to participate in the Residents and Ratepayers Association meetings, and later to  join the association and work together to connect our community with the council services we expect to receive from our rates. 🙂  Of course none of this is possible without an established organisation of some sort, like a Residents and Ratepayers Association or perhaps we should start off with a less formal Coffee Club?

The Glasshouse Country Coffee Club

Two years ago, I presented the idea of a Community Coffee Club in this region which would meet at an alternate venue or coffee outlet, in the region to discuss all things Glasshouse Country. It would be a chance for Residents and Local Business to network and focus on interests and issues within our growing region.

If this concept interests you then please take the time to look at the original article here –> The Glasshouse Country Coffee Club

What do you say?

Ideally we would want to meet at a Local Venue for a Coffee or Tea and a Chat , after the “Beerwah Celebrations” and before Christmas when everything slows down.

If anyone is interested in this idea, email me directly at roland@glasshousecountry.com or message me on Facebook, or comment in this post, or on the website, or sign up to the Coffee Club Invitation which I will send out to all our Facebook Likers and in our Electronic Newsletter at some stage in the near future.

I think this is a great idea, but we already have a Commercial Association, and we have our Rotary Club, which is very interested in our Local area, and helping wherever we can. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this further. I would really like to see us supporting the Clubs we have now, as well as new ones if we need them.
