Artist: Local Artist Gundars Eglentals

July 14, 2013 by Glasshouse Country 21 Comments

The Artist Gundars Eglentals

Gundars Eglentals is a local artist living in the Glasshouse Country Region. We are very interested in his paintings not only because he regularly produces some of the regions most stunning art work based on the splendid Glasshouse Mountains but also because he and his wife often take part in local and sporting events in the region. Gundars Eglentals is know to donate much of his art to local charity and community events.

Many of his painting are purchased by oversea buyers who want to take a little more than a memory back to foreign lands, thankfully there are still a surprising number of paintings till hanging in local homes in the Glasshouse Country and on mural on building in each of the glasshouse country towns.  It is these paints we are most interested in sharing with our readers.

We make it our business to support local Artist, Sport and Music, so if you have a one of Gudars Eglental’s painting hanging on your wall, I would very much appreciate you taking a photo or the painting and sending it in to us at www.GlasshouseCountry.com so that we can add it to our gallery.

Celebrating the Art of Gundars Eglentals. I am hoping to put a some info together about Gundars and his contribution to the Arts in our Community.

Do you have a painting or story of you own to share with us?

If you have a painting of his hanging on your living room wall. Why not share a snapshot of it?

And if you know of any other unsung local hero’s please let me know, we love supporting locals.

The Landsborough Museum has a mural around the walls of the main exhibition room painted by Gundar in 1988.

We have a Gundars Eglentals painting of the Glass House Mountains hanging on our wall here in Falkirk, Scotland, purchased during a 2006 visit to Maleny. Next to it hangs a photo I took of our daughter (aged 7 at the time) helping Gundars paint in some of the detail. Well, we had to buy it after that, didn’t we! I’ll try to take a pic of the pics.

Hello Una M Robinson – I have no idea, it was sent to me by a reader, I will try and find out.

by the way, I love supporting Artists and Musicians so if you can find a few or spread the word it would be very helpful to me to be able to promote other Artists and Musicians 🙂

Gundars painted the murals in the Landsborough Museum. They depict the history from when Flinders climbed the mountain right through to the electric train. You should go and see it some time.

A Delightful Story about one of Gundars Eglentals Paintings: It all began 23 years ago when it was still cool to hitchhike and certain young lady and her partner were picked up by local Artist Gundars Egentals who during the journey explained that he was an artist and asked if he could sketch and paint her.

Over a period of about two days Gundars sketched and painted this 18 year old who said Gundars was wonderfully kind and made her and her partner feel very comfortable, and then typically generous of Gundars he gave her both the sketch and the painting to keep for herself.

The young lady is now 41 (as of 2015) and contacted me recently to share her story about the Gundars Painting and I of course asked if I it would be OK for me to share the story on our community Page and website.

There is a little more to the story and I will share both the sketch and the story as time goes on. (I see you shiver in anticipation).

Do you have a painting or story of you own to share with us?

We have a painting of the glasshpuse mountains that Gundars did many years ago about 20 years. We arrived up at Marycaines Crossing with our young sons. Gundars had just started painting and had half a tree on the Canvas.
Total painting 1 mt x 1/2mt. It’s beautiful. Was up there on Sunday 18th Feb and he was there painting. Went and said hello and he remember us. Also did a painting of one of our bristish shorthair cat we had. – Love his painting.

I would love to contact Gundars as I have 2 paintings he did when a young man in Sydney in 1970. There is quite a story behind how I obtained these paintings and feel a trip down memory lane would interest him.
