Coastal Pathway stretch between Currimundi Lake and Wurtulla is now complete

November 9, 2013 by Glasshouse Country 1 Comment

Ready to run, walk or cycle on the Costal Pathway between Currimundi Lake and Wurtulla

Local residents and visitors will be pleased to learn the Coastal Pathway connecting Kathleen McCarthur Park at Currimundi Lake to Oceanic Drive South in Wurtulla is now complete.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said he was excited this local stretch of the Coastal Pathway is now open to the public in time for Summer, providing even more incentive for everyone to get outside and enjoy our beautiful local coastline.

“The Coastal Pathway is council’s longest shared pathway. It stretches from Tewantin in the north to Golden Beach (Bell’s Creek) in the south,” he said.

“Council’s vision for the Coastal Pathway is to develop an iconic and scenic path that integrates the natural environment, parks and local destinations and also connects services and businesses and enriches the recreational experience on the Sunshine Coast.

“With this piece of the Coastal Pathway now complete it’s possible to safely walk, run or cycle almost continuously from Bell’s Creek to Oceanic Drive.”

This project includes:

  • two 2m wide boardwalk sections, one replacing the existing boardwalk and the other spanning the small gully near beach access 252;
  • a concrete pathway varying from 2 to 2.5 m in width, winding through the trees.

Cr Cox asked for residents to please remember these are all shared pathways so always be mindful of the pathway rules and respectful to other users.

“If you’reon a bike, enjoy the journey and ride at an easy pace and particularly keep an eye out for kids, prams and our four-legged friends,” he said.

“Also be sure to lookout for the new Coastal Pathway symbol to make finding your way along the pathway easier. Additional information is provided on signs, maps and distance markers which will be added to this new stretch of pathway soon.”
