So tell me Beerwah, of all the Towns in Australia, who do you most want to be like and why?
Beerwah has been in transition for a number of years, and it will be something different again in the years ahead, so please help me solve this puzzle. “Will Beerwah Become like Maleny, Noosa or Caboolture?”
The truth is that Beerwah’s future has been more or less mapped out for us by our Sunshine Coast Council or the State Governments with or without you and I playing a part in the process and so we don’t really know or understand what exactly they have planned.
Towns are very much like people, they face their own challenges, opportunities, good fortune and sometimes plain bad luck which oftentimes fall outside of their own control and even with the very best of ideas and intentions councils are often limited and in many instances they are simply ineffectual in what they are able to achieve.
In the end it will be the ‘People of Beerwah’ who choose and determine what their future will be like and very broadly speaking the paths we choose will take us towards three different cultures, namely Maleny, Noosa or Caboolture?
Maleny: is well known for its alternative ‘hippie/greenie culture’. The town of Maleny is populated by a wide demographic of people with artists, musicians and craftspeople who are sometimes juxtaposed against the more traditional older residents. It has an array of interesting shops closely linked to the alternative culture and attracts a high percentage of the Sunshine Coast tourist population.
Noosa: is the most stylish of the coastal Towns, but still extraordinary difficult to find work, quite simply because there is not much work, but most people arrive in Noosa with a financial cushion and quickly find out that they need to use their cash to make ends meet and they end up taking employment beneath their hopes and aspirations. The one thing they have going for them is that they manage their councils well and tell them what they want. Cabooluture: – Truth is that apart from a ‘hokus pokus’ document made up by the Morton Bay Council, I had a hard time finding resources which link Caboolture with the culture. 🙂 I don’t imagine that the People of Caboolture have any say in the future of their Town and I feel quite confident that the People of Beerwah don’t write letters to their local councillor suggesting that Beerwah should become more like Caboolture, although in the absence so making good choices about the future of Beerwah we may well end up this way. https://www.reddit.com/r/brisbane/comments/232gny/tell_me_about_caboolture/ (reader beware, bad words and the truth)

Having just moved to the area this year, I hope it doesn’t change too much. I moved from Maroochydore and Beerwah has enough of “essentials” while maintaining a nice country town vibe, it’s lovely.
I work in Cabo … thats enough for me … love coming home to the peace and quiet … lol We have everything we need already here … and its only a short trip into Caloundra or Caboolture for the other stuff

Beerwah is evolving and unfolding within its own culture. It can’t be compared to Maleny, Caboolture or Noosa. Yes, it’s true that councils and government map out a town’s layout and infrastructure. However, it is the people are the lifeblood of a town.
It seems that the people of Beerwah are responding to the changes in positive ways regenerating and renewing their town.
May Beerwah create its own identity and not be like any other town!

Thanks for your comments. 🙂 The purpose of the article was too draw attention to the fact that Towns which take care of their own affairs are able to acquire their own identities as well. Towns like Noosa and Maleny are able to exhibit their own unique personality because they take responsibility for themselves and are actively pursuing the culture of their own choosing. On the other hand towns like Caboolture simply take what they’re given and don’t make a fuss, and therefore lack many of the more interesting characteristics found in Noosa and Maleny.
Yes, I too want Beerwah to be unique, and have it’s very own personality, but for example when we are are only supplying smaller blocks of land to new residents with absolutely no options or choice to purchase midsize or big blocks of land, then we are simply wishing for a better Beerwah while traveling full speed toward a Caboolture culture. 🙂

Why does Beerwah have to be like any other town? Beerwah is Beerwah because of its uniqueness and not likeness to some other town. Once similarity occurs there is no pleasure in living in a town so nicely positioned as Beerwah is, close enough to beaches, mountains, other towns and cities to fully accommodate the needs of residents and visitors.

Beerwah is not unique in any way. It was once, many years ago, when it had character. Now, it is so much like Caboolture it’s a joke. It is a shame this once lovely town , that had a real community spirit, where everyone knew everyone else, is developing into the Morayfield of the Sunshine Coast
